There has been a big theme in my work over the past couple weeks. I have been putting a lot of energy into getting my new guide together, and so I have been thinking about amusement and lightheartedness in daily life a lot.
Thanks to my friend and teacher for my intuitive awareness course, amusement has been coming up for me pretty much weekly during meditations for almost an entire year. That’s not to say that I didn’t experience it before, but I certainly have a greater awareness and intentionality (that’s a word, right?) around it now. I have a choice to be able to view things from a stance of amusement. And that’s a big shift, especially because it recently occurred to me that seeing things from that stance is my natural state.
But what is amusement?
To me, lighthearted entertainment sums it up. We can be entertained by this life even when it is super frustrating and annoying and chaotic, just as we can be entertained by it when we’re laughing and playing. We can practice with shifting and changing our lens to get to the place of standing back and saying, “Wow, this sucks. But, hmm…isn’t it interesting? This life is something else.” This might sound like a big undertaking, but really, it’s just small changes and experiments that add up over time. Tiny little actions that have ripple effects.
I’ve put together a checklist to get you started on experimenting with finding more amusement in your day-to-day life. These are simple steps to remove barriers and be present to the life around you. Actionable, easy steps that you can use right now. Did I mention that it’s free?
Once you’re ready for more, I’ve got you covered. There is a Cultivating Amusement Facebook group waiting for you with open arms. It’s an easy, breezy playground for you to share some of your experiments and hear from others too. And if you’re ready to take your experimenting to the next level, download Cultivating Amusement: Planting Seeds for Living a Lighthearted Year. You’ll find monthly exercises, actions, and reflections that will keep your shift going!
Let me know if you have any questions at all. I’m glad you’re here and can’t wait to learn more about you.
